The maintenance of salt and pepper granite rocks poses a real challenge. They should not be neglected because of their heat and scratch resistance.

• They are sold in the market in a sealed condition and provided with a protective coating to reduce the porosity of its surface.
• Cleaning involves a simple process of using a mild soap and water. A neutral detergent can also be used followed by cleaning the surface with water. It is better to dry them by using a soft clean cloth.
• Usually; your interior designer will provide you with a care-kit for cleaning them at regular intervals to maintain a long lasting finish. This care-kit contains all the products such as waterproofing oil, cleaning fluid, and wax that help in protecting them.
• It is not at all advisable to use any sharp or metallic substance for cleaning the surface. Abrasive products such as metal pads and detergents may lead to severe irreversible damage in the long run. It is better to avoid any alkaline- or chlorine-based cleaners. Bleach is also not required as these surfaces are very easy to maintain, cost-effective, and user-friendly. Wire wool and wax for cleaning drainage flutes can be used.
• Acidic products such as vinegar, wine, citrus liquids, cold drinks, curry, beetroot, saffron, blackcurrant, red wine are prone to leave a mark on the surface. Hence, it is necessary that you wipe them immediately before they cause staining on the surface and ruin the look.

Thus, although salt and pepper granite rocks are heat-resistant, it is better not to expose them to direct and excessive heat. Moreover, always ensure that knives or cutting tools are not used directly on the granite; instead use the chopping board to avoid scaring the
